It's 80 degrees out, and I can feel that it's about to be the start of summer. Loud music blasting from across the street, the smell of men smoking their cancer sticks, and the scent of a slightly flat ironed 26 inch weave definitely gives me Chicago summer vibes. And while the popular trend of us girls letting this be the summer of stallions or hot girls, I don't want us to lose sight of our purpose. I have a track record of getting lost in the summer sun, making sure I go out every weekend, and finding some boy I can have some sort of summer fling with. But this year, 2019, is going to be different. It needs to be. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not judging or bashing any of you all for enjoying and reclaiming your time. I'm just sayin' don't get lost in the summer sauce. Before you know it, 3 day parties and a few brunches later it will be September and playtime is OVER!
In my 23 years of life, I've learned that I have a gift and not just one, but many purposes. Don't get lost in trying to find JUST one thing you're good at. FIND MULTIPLE! Ask yourself right now: What am I good at? What do I like to do? And can I make money from it? Make a list. Write down 3 to 5 goals that you want to accomplish these next three months. Black women tend to get lost in certain areas in life, whether were mothers, students, finances, etc. We get lost in these "roles" that we start to subconsciously let them define us. We forget about us. We forget about our values. What we really want to be in life while we're in these bodies during this journey. So I say this year, put your summer fling on hold, tell your girlfriends you'll take a rain check, and start your summer for YOU!
